covered tanks

Two large circular water tanks with people around them in a rural setting.

High-volume above-ground liquid storage with a practical floating cover for protection, efficiency and long-term performance.

Downlands Covered Tanks provide large-scale above-ground storage for irrigation water, agricultural liquids and effluent-management applications. Their floating roof cover moves with the liquid level, helping minimise evaporation, reduce algae growth and protect stored contents from external contamination.

With configurations available up to 6 million litres, these tanks offer a practical solution for projects requiring substantial storage capacity, efficient installation and adaptable site design. The modular flatpack construction supports transport to restricted-access, remote and international locations, while a broad range of fittings enables each system to be configured around operational requirements.

Features & Benefits

  • Floating roof cover -  Adjusts with the liquid level to help minimise evaporation, reduce algae growth and limit external contamination.
  • Very high storage capacity -  Configurations available up to 6 million litres, supporting major irrigation, agricultural liquid and effluent-storage requirements.
  • Large-scale above-ground design -  Tanks can be built up to approximately 3m high and 48.9m in diameter, providing significant volume without below-ground storage works.
  • Modular Flatpack Construction -  Simplifies transport and containerisation, supporting delivery to remote, restricted-access and export-led project locations.
  • Efficient installation -  Modular assembly supports installation within approximately 1–7 days, subject to site preparation and project requirements.
  • Reduced groundwork requirement -  In suitable conditions, the tank system can avoid extensive concrete foundations, helping reduce installation time, cost and construction impact.
  • Suitable for challenging sites -  Above-ground storage provides a practical option for sites affected by high water tables, soft soils, floodplain conditions or restricted access, subject to technical assessment.
  • Ground-movement resilience -  The modular design is engineered to accommodate ground movement and has demonstrated earthquake performance, supporting reliable storage in demanding environments.
  • Non-corrosive and low maintenance -  Materials are designed not to rust or rot and can be suitable for exposed or high-salt environments, with minimal ongoing maintenance requirements.
  • Flexible and relocatable -  Multiple configurations are available, and the tank structure may be relocated where operational or temporary storage requirements change.
  • Configurable connections and fittings -  Options include base drains, additional inlets and outlets, level indicators, wash-down systems, ground anchors, tanker connections, access hatches, anti-vortex plates, valves and stainless-steel fittings.
  • Long-term infrastructure value -  A stated 25-year design life supports long-term planning for high-volume storage and environmental-management requirements.

Suitable applications

  • Agricultural irrigation storage
  • Dairy effluent storage
  • Green-water management
  • Large-volume liquid containment
  • Floodplain and high-water-table sites
  • Remote and export-led infrastructure projects
